I Had to Grow Up Too Early

Childhood wasn’t easy for me. Poverty was a reality, and growing up around a dysfunctional family meant I was exposed to problems I wasn’t old enough to fully understand.

I took on responsibilities that most kids shouldn’t have to think about. There were times when being a child came second to worrying about what was happening at home, what needed to be handled, or how we were going to make it through something.

When you grow up like that, responsibility doesn’t always feel like maturity. Sometimes it’s survival. You learn to adapt because you don’t really have another choice.

As an adult, I can see how much those years shaped me. My need for independence, my relationship with money, my desire for stability, and even my obsession with building something I control all have roots somewhere back there.

Before Rebel. Before GNT. Before the music.

A lot of Bayou was being built while Khalil was still just trying to be a kid.
